It is owned entirely by the Union Government, under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal. It is involved in the lignite and coal mining and production industry.

SCCL is a joint undertaking of Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India. The equity capital is shared in the ratio of roughly 51:49 between Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Central Government respectively. The headquarters of the company is at Kothagudem in Andhra Pradesh SCCL produces about 10% of the country’s coal production and 76% of its production is despatched to the coal based thermal power plants in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The remaining part of SCCL’s coal production is supplied to the cement companies and other industries. | |

The National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) is a constituent laboratory of CSIR - the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, an autonomous research organization in India. The institute has its headquarters in the coastal state Goa, and regional centres in Kochi , Mumbai and Vizag. The Institute was established on 1 January 1966. At the end of over 40 years, this is grown today into a large oceanographic laboratory of international repute with main focus on the understanding of special oceanographic features of the Northern Indian Ocean. The Ministry of Coal has the overall responsibility of determining policies and strategies in respect of exploration and development of coal and lignite reserves, sanctioning of important projects of high value and for deciding all related issues.
